This is where the $100 price gap becomes tangible. The L40 Ultra Gen 2 pulls 25,000Pa of suction — a full 2.5x more than the L10s Gen 2’s 10,000Pa. On bare hard floors, you might not notice the difference during a daily maintenance run. But on medium-pile carpet, embedded pet hair, or fine dust trapped deep in fibers, the L40 extracts noticeably more debris per pass.

The L10s Gen 2 isn’t a weak vacuum by any means. At 10,000Pa, it handles daily crumbs, surface-level pet hair, and light carpet cleaning without issues. It’s the kind of robot that keeps a reasonably clean home clean. Where it struggles is deep extraction — the stuff you’d normally handle with a stick vacuum on the weekend. The L40 pushes closer to eliminating that need entirely.

Both share Dreame’s anti-tangle brush technology, so long hair and pet fur won’t wrap around the roller regardless of which model you choose.

Winner: Dreame L40 Ultra Gen 2 — 2.5x suction is not a marginal upgrade. The L40 cleans carpets like a robot that costs twice as much.

Navigation & Obstacle Avoidance

The critical difference is the L40 Gen 2’s addition of an RGB camera, which enables visual object recognition — pet waste, shoes, cables, and other floor hazards get identified and avoided rather than bumped into.

The L10s Gen 2 relies on structured light alone for obstacle detection. It can see furniture legs and walls just fine, but small objects on the floor are hit-or-miss. If you have pets, children’s toys scattered around, or charging cables on the floor, the L40’s camera is a meaningful safety net.

Both robots stand at roughly 3.8 inches tall, so under-furniture reach is identical. Neither offers the threshold-climbing ProLeap legs found on Dreame’s premium X50 and L50 models.

Mopping

Mopping is closer than you’d expect. Both the L10s Gen 2 and L40 Gen 2 use dual spinning pads with MopExtend technology for edge coverage. The mopping hardware is functionally similar — the pads spin at comparable speeds and extend outward to reach baseboards that most robots leave untouched.

Where the L40 edges ahead is in its dock wash temperature. The L40’s dock heats water to 149F versus the L10s Gen 2’s 131F. That 18-degree difference matters for grease, bacteria, and odor elimination on the mop pads between runs. Both docks include hot-air drying to prevent mildew.

On hard floors with everyday spills and tracked-in dirt, both robots produce clean results. For tougher stains — dried coffee, kitchen grease, muddy paw prints — the L40’s hotter pad wash keeps the mop cleaner between passes, which indirectly improves mopping quality over multi-room runs.

Dock & Maintenance

Both docks are full-featured omni stations: auto-empty, hot water mop wash, hot-air dry, and auto water refill. The L10s Gen 2 dock empties into a bag lasting roughly 60 days; the L40 Gen 2 extends that to 100 days. For a single-person apartment, neither needs attention more than once a month. For a pet household, the math shifts: shedding fills bags far faster than the ratings assume, shortening both intervals — but the ratio holds, and over a year the L40 owner simply deals with the dust bag noticeably less often.

Battery runtime favors the L10s Gen 2: 210 minutes versus 194 for the L40. In practice, both cover large homes comfortably, but the L10s Gen 2 is less likely to need a mid-clean recharge on 2,500+ sq ft layouts.

Noise levels are nearly identical — 64 dB for the L10s Gen 2 and 63 dB for the L40. Neither is quiet enough for nighttime use, but both are unobtrusive during the day.

Winner: Tie — The L40 has a longer dust bag interval and hotter wash; the L10s Gen 2 has more battery. Neither dock is meaningfully better overall.

Smart Features & App

Both robots run on the Dreame app — same interface, same feature set. Multi-floor mapping, per-room suction and water settings, no-go zones, scheduled cleanings, and cleaning history are all available on both models.

The L40 Gen 2’s RGB camera unlocks video monitoring and more nuanced AI features within the app. You can check a live feed of what the robot sees during cleaning, which doubles as a basic home security feature. The L10s Gen 2 does not offer this.

Voice control through Alexa and Google Home works on both. Neither supports Matter natively.

Value & Price

At roughly $449 vs $549, the L40 Ultra Gen 2 asks for $100 more than the L10s Gen 2. Months after launch, with both models settled into the lineup as known quantities, that gap still buys 2.5x the suction, an RGB camera with visual obstacle avoidance and video monitoring, a hotter dock wash, and a longer auto-empty interval. That is a lot of upgrade for $100.

The $549 shelf also puts the L40 in perspective against the rest of the market: the Roborock Qrevo S5V and Tapo RV50 Pro Omni sell at exactly the same price, and neither gets within half of the L40’s 25,000Pa. Among mid-range robots, the L40 is the suction outlier at its price.

The L10s Gen 2 makes sense in a specific scenario: if your home is mostly hard floors, you don’t have pets or children leaving clutter around, and you want a full Dreame omni dock for the absolute lowest price. It does the basics well and the long battery life is genuinely useful.

But for the vast majority of buyers, spending the extra $100 on the L40 Gen 2 is the right call. The suction gap alone justifies it. The camera and dock improvements are bonuses that compound the value.
