Most robot vacuum statistics online are either paywalled market-research abstracts or numbers a blog invented. These are neither: every figure below is computed directly from the spec sheets of the 59 robot vacuums in our review database — the same data that powers our comparisons — and recomputes automatically whenever the dataset changes. The Suction Arms Race vs. the Industry's Own Advice
Here is the strangest number in this dataset. Ask the manufacturers themselves how much suction a robot vacuum needs and they'll tell you, in writing, on their own blogs: Narwal puts everyday adequacy around 2,000–3,500Pa, Ecovacs and Dreame draw the "strong performance" line by roughly 5,000–6,000Pa. Yet the median advertised suction across the 59 models we track is 10,000Pa — comfortably above the top of the industry's own adequacy range — and the highest sticker in the dataset reads 35,000Pa, roughly 6× the upper bound of what the same industry's guidance calls sufficient.
The two claims coexist because they're about different things: the guidance describes cleaning adequacy, the sticker describes marketing position. Advertised Pa is measured in a sealed tube, not on your carpet, and returns diminish sharply above the mid-teens — which is why our carpet rankings lean on independent deep-clean tests rather than the sticker. What Robot Vacuums Actually Cost
The median typical street price across all 59 tracked models is $549, inside a range that runs from $155 to $1,999. The tier medians tell the more useful story: our budget tier centers on $237.5, mid-range on $500, and premium on $1,049.5 — meaning the jump from budget to mid-range costs about the same as a nice cordless stick, while the jump from mid-range to premium costs more than an entire second mid-range robot. That asymmetry is why our value guidance keeps landing in the $400–900 band.
Restricted to the 42 models sold through US channels (our dataset also tracks 17 EU-market models), the medians shift upward slightly: $589 typical price and 12,000Pa advertised suction. US-market claims should use these numbers.
Dollars per Advertised Pascal — the On-Paper Value Spread
Divide each model's street price by its advertised suction and the spread is startling: the cheapest advertised suction in the dataset costs about $17 per 1,000Pa (the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S40), the most expensive about $352 per 1,000Pa (the iRobot Roomba j7+) — a gap of more than 20×. To be clear about what this metric is: it prices the claim, not the cleaning. Some of the "worst value" machines here are excellent robots whose worth lives in navigation software or dock hardware rather than the suction sticker. That's precisely the point — the models clustered at the expensive end of this ratio are the ones whose spec sheet tells you least about why they cost what they cost.
Docks: Self-Empty Is the Norm, Mop-Washing Is the Divider
Self-emptying has quietly stopped being a premium feature: 46 of 59 tracked models (78%) ship with a dock that empties the robot's bin. The real dividing line in 2026 is mop maintenance — 36 of 59 (61%) have docks that wash the mop, and that split tracks price tiers closely: it's the feature that separates "robot that also mops" from "robot you genuinely don't touch for weeks." Height and Noise, Briefly
The median tracked robot stands 3.84" tall, and 36 of 59 come in under the 3.9" mark that decides most under-sofa arguments — worth checking against your actual furniture before fixating on any other spec. Noise spans 51–76 dB with a median of 65 dB, roughly conversation volume; the quiet tail of that range matters more than it looks on paper, since hard floors reflect sound that carpet absorbs.
Methodology, Honestly
Sample: the 59 robot vacuums in the RoboVacGuide review database as of this build — a curated review sample skewed toward models worth covering, not a census of the market, so read every figure as "across the models we track," never "the market average." Specs are manufacturers' advertised figures (suction is advertised Pa, not measured cleaning performance); prices are the typical street prices we maintain by hand, not MSRPs. Feature counts (LiDAR, cameras, self-empty, mop-wash) are classified from our structured spec fields and were hand-verified against each model in July 2026. No release-year data exists in the dataset, so this page makes no trend claims — it's a 2026 snapshot, refreshed annually.
